2025 MSV Miata Trophy
Rounds 7 & 8 – Donington Park GP
It’s been a long summer break since Brands Hatch — which, if I’m honest, wasn’t a bad thing for us. We came back at Donington, where conditions were pretty wet, but it turned out to be the best race meeting of the year so far.
Qualifying didn’t go to plan. I was a bit rusty after the layoff, with no Friday practice, and we ended up on the wrong tyres as it was wetter than anticipated. Seventeenth on the grid wasn’t exactly ideal!
Race one was great fun, though. I got a fantastic start and made up loads of places round the outside of turn one. I lost a couple soon after, but then found my rhythm and pressed forward to finish sixth. Race two was less dramatic but still really enjoyable — more a case of steadily chipping away, and I was happy to come home in sixth again.
They might have been two sixth places, but they were the best sixth places I’ve had — and the most fun. To top it off, I was awarded Driver of the Day, which was a nice boost. Hopefully that means we’ve turned a corner for 2025 and can start heading forwards from here.
I also stayed on for Sunday to take part in the five-hour Ford KA endurance race. Racing a KA is a lot better than it looks! I did a 75-minute stint on a drying track, but to keep the engine cool you have to run the heaters on full blast — I was absolutely soaked by the end. During my stint I was mixing it with drivers from the top three, which was pleasing. In the end we finished 19th after some pit stop fun that didn’t really do us justice. Maybe we’ll have another go one day.
All in all, a really good weekend. Thanks as always for the support — next up, Oulton!
