2025 MSV Miata Trophy

Rounds 9 & 10 – Oulton Park International

Oulton Park — one of the very best circuits in the country. Twisty and flowing with elevation, it’s a proper driver’s circuit.

We struggled for pace on Friday, but a change late in the day gave me some optimism heading into the weekend.

Qualifying was fun! I found myself in a little train, and while I felt I could have gained more in the braking zones, the benefit from the tow was huge. If I’d been running with slightly quicker cars I think we could have ended up higher, but I was happy with 7th.

Race one got underway with a clean start, although I was a little boxed in and lost a place. I managed to get it back with a good move round the outside into Knickerbrook chicane. After that, my pace wasn’t quite strong enough to stay in the podium fight, but I kept them in sight and picked up another spot due to attrition. Fifth place — my best result since the opening race of the season.

Race two was good fun as well, with battles all the way through. The front group broke away, and I was locked into the fight for 5th. I spent most of the race in 6th, did manage to get ahead, but then had to employ some self-preservation after a ‘do or die’ move from the car behind. Avoiding contact cost me two places, and I was a bit annoyed — with myself as well as the situation.

Still, it was a good day and enjoyable to be competitive again.
