2025 MSV Miata Trophy
Rounds 3 & 4 – Silverstone GP
My journey in motor racing began at Silverstone; first with the licence test and then my first race meeting. I always look forward to racing here and historically go well too. Not this time, though!
In qualifying I could only manage 8th, more than two seconds off pole — something I’m really not used to! After some head scratching, we decided to make some tweaks to the car set up, although the feeling was that such a large gap would require more fundamental changes.
After a fairly even getaway in race one, I had to take evasive action at Becketts on lap one (the third corner), to avoid what would have been my second race ending shunt in as many starts. This dropped me right down to 19th, but at least I kept the car in one piece. I got stuck in, but even with a tow from the cars in front, I didn’t seem able to make a huge impression, finishing up 12th.
I started third for race two and ran second early on, before being gradually shuffled back throughout the race and ending up 9th.
Overall, this wasn’t what we had hoped or worked for after the difficulties at Snetterton. We clearly need more pace, but at least we came away without race-ending damage this time.
I would like to say a big thank you for the support I receive and also a special mention for Terry, who put up with my grumbling throughout the weekend and continued to turn the spanners constantly.
