2026 MSV Miata Trophy
Rounds 3 & 4 – Silverstone GP Circuit
For the second meeting of the year, we headed to Silverstone to race on the full Grand Prix circuit.
Qualifying was a bit of a scrappy session. It’s so critical to get in a good position on track as a slipstream down the long straights can be worth a lot of lap time. So, there was a bit of maneuvering going on. I think I overdrove a bit and ended up ninth (1.7 seconds from pole), but I feel I had the pace for fifth.
Race one was entertaining throughout, with battling all the way from beginning to end. I felt pretty competitive and was in the fight for third place for the most part, albeit on the back of the pack. I was able to keep up in the tow when they were fighting ahead, but didn’t really have the speed to make progress through. Something to work on there before Brands Hatch. A sprinkling of rain on the last two laps made it a really sketchy – but fun – ending as I finished seventh.
The weather for race two was the opposite way round, starting damp and drying. I started seventh and was up to third on lap one, but started to slip back until about halfway through, I was dive-bombed at the Vale chicane where I dropped several places at once and found myself back where I started. Once again, I could keep up but not make an impression. I think this was partly down to power, but also I needed to apply more aggression. Come the end of the race I was again in the fight for third and running sixth, I decided to go for it and made a move only to find the gravel and therefore rather than going up to fifth I dropped to eighth. But I was pleased I had a go!
Our setup choices for the races were bob on, so I was pleased with that. I have a few things to work on before the next race meeting, but it is always a pleasure to race at the home of the British Grand Prix.
