2022 BRSCC Mazda MX-5 SuperCup.
Round 7, Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit.
We headed to Donington Park for the penultimate round of the championship, on the Grand Prix circuit. The times were very close between the top cars in qualifying; I was 0.2 seconds away from a front row place, but ended up 8th!
Race 1 was a vintage MX-5 race. I was running in 9th at one point, but was always in the front pack and came back through to finish up 5th after a lot of side-by-side action and a drag race to the flag out of the final corner. It was good fun and we followed that up with another 5th place in race two. This was less frantic, but I was pleased to pick up another solid result in this competitive championship.
For the reverse grid race three, I started on my own on the front row after a problem for Ali Bray during the warm up lap. Leading down the Craner Curves, two cars had the inside line for the Old Hairpin, so I slotted into third. On the exit of the corner though, I was hit in the rear, turned round in front of the pack and sent spinning backwards towards the wall. Fortunately, I stayed out of the wall and got going again, 34th and last. From then on, I did the only thing I could do, and got stuck in. I came through to 12th by the end and while it was fun to drive through the pack, I felt another top five was on the cards.
